The Leela Kempinksi Mumbai Appoints New Exec Chef
MUMBIA, India, March 3, 2011 - Marking yet another milestone in its culinary journey, The Leela Kempinski Mumbai has announced the appointment of Chef Deepak Bhatia as Executive Chef for the hotel.
With almost three decades of experience in catering to the palate of a global audience, Chef Bhatia's repertoire boasts of assignments at locations as distinct as Australia, South-East Asia and Russia, among others. After a formal education in Hotel Management from IHM, Mumbai and The Oberoi School of Hotel Management, Chef Bhatia got his initial live kitchen lessons in Mumbai. Chef Bhatia joins us with a rich background of 16 years with Hyatt International.
Talking about Chef Bhatia, Biswajit Chakraborty, General Manager of The Leela Kempinski Mumbai said, “We are very happy to welcome Chef Bhatia in our midst. With increasing avenues for guests to dine in the city, we are confident that Chef's innate understanding of the Indian taste coupled with his international expertise will add to our vibrant gastronomic offering.”
Taking on the assignment, Chef Bhatia commented, “I am honored to take on the role of Executive Chef of this historic property. The Leela Mumbai has been a landmark in the city since the time that I was a student in this city. I am excited about the opportunities that working for a hotel with a 25-year heritage offers me and being a part of The Leela family.”
While he has been Executive Chef at hotels across the globe, it is conceptualizing and setting up restaurants that have been his joie de vivre. Western European cuisine followed by Asian are what he calls his forte. Chef Bhatia spends his time out of the Chef's uniform pursuing his interest in sports, health and exploring street food.
Set on 11 lushly-landscaped acres amid waterfalls and lotus ponds, the luxurious Leela in Mumbai is a tranquil refuge from the hustle and bustle of India's business capital. Guests enter through towering cast-iron gates and continue up the drive through tropical gardens of palms, mango and banyan trees. The Royal Club underwent a recent $25 million renovation.
