Inn by the Sea Chosen for National Geographic Traveler " Stay List"
Cherishing a sense of place eco stewardship and a sweet night's sleep
CAPE ELIZABETH, ME, April 23, 2008. Inn by the Sea has been named to the first ever National Geographic Traveler Stay List, which features 150 hotels in United, States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean that "both cherish a sense of place and offer a sweet night's sleep." National Geographic Traveler (NGT) describes the Stay List as celebrating hotels that are among the best at blending locally inspired architecture, eco stewardship, amenities and ambience.
The Stay List was created with research from both local experts and travelers, according to NGT editors. Properties responded to in-depth questionnaires, sent to more than 600 nominated hotels. After further review by magazine staff, the list was reduced to the final "150 Hotels You'll Love" and "showcases overnights that range from rustic to luxurious, dirt cheap to splurge."
"The hotels and inns that made it onto the list give back to the community, work to conserve and sustain, and - day in and day out - celebrate the very best that their destinations have to offer," stated National Geographic Traveler Senior Editor Sheila Feldman Buckmaster
The eco friendly Inn by the Sea has undergone a complete renovation over the winter and will reopen in June with luxuriously refurbished suites and rooms, a new spa and ocean view restaurant that celebrates locally inspired menus. Many new sustainable features were added to the multi million-dollar makeover such as the addition of solar panels, and use of recycled sheet rock and recycled rubber floors in the spa and cardio room.
"We are thrilled to be on National Geographic's Stay List as the parameters for making the list align completely with our goals." stated General Manager, Sara Masterson.
Inn by the Sea was described as "Painterly, extensively revamped gray shingles- and carbon-neutral- retreat with cozy cottage- of - one's own allure. Atlantic landscape recalls Winslow Homer with expansive views of lobster boat-sprinkled- waters. Lush grounds; gardens, a bird sanctuary, and a boardwalk leading to a sandy beach."
Inn by the Sea is located on three and half miles of unspoiled beach just ten minutes from the activities of Portland's historic Old Port. Completely renovated in the winter of 2008 the 57 comfortably appointed rooms and suites, new full service spa, and five acres of redesigned indigenous seaside gardens create an atmosphere of true eco-luxury that is distinctly Maine.
