Fairview Park Marriott Completes Renovation

. October 14, 2008

OCTOBER 5, 2008. The Fairview Park Marriott recently completed a $3.5 million renovation that has turned it into a trendy gathering place with ambiance and cuisine unmatched in the suburbs.

The renovation ran five and a half months and encompassed the lobby, lounge and restaurant. An earlier renovation of the guest rooms and health club was completed in 2006. Now the lobby has been identified by other hotel owners as one of the "finest examples" of the new spacious, multi-functionality architecture trend in the local DC area. In addition to the open air style, the lobby also boasts expansive seating and ample social and work space with high speed internet access.

The newly renovated and expanded Ellipse Restaurant and Lounge, includes the addition of a new private dining room, offering an intimate gathering place for meetings or meals. The Lounge has been expanded from 34 to 110 seats and showcases jazz and other musicians from the local Virginia area, as well as daily cocktail specials, local wines and beer brewed in the Gentile Old Dominion.

Chef Anthony Shiffer joined the hotel prior to the completion of the renovation to help establish the Ellipse Restaurant and Lounge among the many area restaurants. In staying true to the hotel's local Virginia roots, Chef Shiffer uses the freshest local ingredients, including beef, fish and produce that are delivered daily. Calling his cooking style "eclectic," Chef Shiffer uses his creativity to whip up unusual pairings that result in cuisine with a twist. "Entrees from my kitchen come from my wild imagination," joked Chef Shiffer. "I like to create things that people haven't seen before." The menu changes frequently to take advantage of seasonal ingredients.

"This renovation has forever changed the make up of our hotel," explains Terry Duvall, general manager of the Fairview Park Marriott. "We have transformed what was a typical 'hotel bar' and public space into a vibrant gathering place where our guests can enjoy socializing or working in an open, energetic environment. The competitive edge this space has given us will allow us to better outperform our market competitors while increasing customer satisfaction."
