ISM Spa Announces Seasoned Spa Veteran Anne Melby as Senior Vice President

USA, Atlanta, Georgia. September 23, 2021

Founding partners Ilana Alberico and Christina Stratton are pleased to announce that Anne Melby has joined the ISM Spa executive team as Senior Vice President. A veteran spa professional, she is experienced in every aspect of spa development and operations-with a specialty for openings, renovations, rebranding, and turn-arounds. She is highly accomplished and diversified in hospitality and wellness, holding multiple certifications including PMP (Project Management Professional), LCAM (Licensed Community Association Manager), Registered Massage Therapist, and International SPA Association Certified Spa Supervisor.

Melby comments, "I'm excited work with such smart, forward-thinking leaders with high moral integrity. They're just good people. The company is very innovative and ahead of the curve. We have an aligned vision of delivering luxury personalized experiences while utilizing new technology to provide efficiency, convenience, and profit. Ilana and Christina are creating models for the future, and I believe that we're going to be leaders in the market. You have a bunch of ‘doers' on at ISM, including myself, so I thought, if anyone can make it happen, it's this team."

For the majority of her career, Melby held multiple positions with Red Door Spa Holdings, including General Manager and Regional Vice President. Managing up to 800 employees from diverse cultures, she is fluent in four languages. Her entrepreneurial venture Fractional COO Hospitality Spa & Wellness leveraged her vast operational expertise, providing remote operational services for businesses needing high level expertise, without the burden of a full time COO.

"We are thrilled to add Anne to our all-women executive team," said Stratton. "Her depth of experience in the spa industry and ability to manage large-scale operations and a global, diverse workforce is remarkable. Anne will be heading up some of ISM's new initiatives to be announced soon. Stay tuned!"

Hotel Human Resources: The Great Resignation

Hotels have always struggled with the task of attracting and retaining qualified employees. At any given moment, hotels are consistently understaffed which makes providing quality guest services a persistent challenge. Additionally, as a consequence of the pandemic, there has been a mass exodus of workers who left their employers and haven't returned. This phenomenon has become known as the Great Resignation. In one month alone last year, over 900,000 employees left hospitality jobs, affecting all areas of operations including frontline workers,  restaurant and housekeeping staff, and hotel management. To overcome these challenges, Human Resource departments are implementing a variety of solutions. First, they are reassessing their wage and benefits guidelines in an effort to become more competitive. They are also leveraging digital technology to attract and retain talent, and to improve the employee experience. The goal is to centralize communications, enhance employee engagement, empower independent decision-making, and expand educational opportunities. The March Hotel Business Review will explore what some HR professionals are doing to address these critical employment issues in their respective departments.
